Mid-America Transplant Services (MTS) has been recognized as the 2015 recipient of the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award for Performance Excellence in the Nonprofit category.
This award recognizes MTS for its ability to serve its communities by saving lives through increased organ and tissue donation, and marks the first time an Organ Procurement Organization (OPO) has been named a Baldrige recipient.
This year, MTS’ work will account for more than 600 lifesaving organ transplants, twice as many lives saved in a single year as when the organization began its Baldrige journey 10 years ago. MTS is also able to complete this work in a cost-efficient way. Since 2012, their cost-per-donor has decreased from approximately $7,000 to under $4,000 at MTS’ stand-alone organ recovery facility, compared to approximately $20,000 when completed in the hospital.
As the first OPO to receive this honor, MTS plans to leverage its national recognition to bring greater awareness to organ and tissue donation across the country, as well as help other OPOs incorporate the Baldrige model into their own organizations.[button title=”Read More” link=”https://www.commerce.gov/news/press-releases/2015/11/us-secretary-commerce-penny-pritzker-announces-four-recipients-2015″ target=”_blank” size=”” color=”” class=””] [divider height=”30″ line=”1″]
